What to do in
Beziers:
Golf
Saint-Thomas
The course at Saint-Thomas, set in the wild scrubland known
as the ‘garrigue’, has a typically Mediterranean feel. The
18-hole course (par 72, 6130 metres) will suit all levels of
player, from beginner to expert. Every hole has its own
character: wooded, hilly, lakeside or straightforward.
Lamalou les
Bains
Lamalou les Bains golf course has a fabulous setting at the
foot of the Caroux mountain in the foothills of the Cévennes,
with the river Orb running by. The wooded course with its three
lakes is a pleasure to play whatever your level.
Climate and Weather Beziers
Due to its situation in the
Mediterranean, Beziers offers one of the best and sunniest climates
of the whole of France - there are more than 300 days of sunshine per
year! Beziers and its region are attractive year round.
To make the most of these assets, 13 towns
(Bassan, Boujan-sur-Libron, Cers, Corneilhan, Espondeilhan,
Lieuran-les-Béziers, Lignan-sur-Orb, Sauvian, Sérignan, Servian,
Villeneuve-les-Béziers, and Valras-Plage) totaling a population of over
100,000, decided to join forces and build a common future.
Béziers-Méditerranée has what it takes to rise up to the major challenges of
today : combining industrialization and quality of life, economic
development and managed urbanization, cultural identity and opening up to
others.
Béziers Top 5:
1. Cathédrale St-Nazaire. The main sight in Béziers and not a bad one at
that. This grandiose Romanesque cathedral dates from the thirteenth century
and occupies one of the best sites in town: from the concourse in front of
the cathedral there are terrific views out over the surrounding vineyards
and towards the foothills of the Massif Central to the north.
2. Musée des Beaux Arts. The best of the town’s museums with paintings by
Rubens and Delacroix as well as several local artists.
3. Feria. Based on Spain’s corrida, this festival takes in the middle of
August (usually around the 15th) and lasts for four days. A holiday
atmosphere invades the town as young men full of bravado take on the bulls
and the town gets down to some serious partying with street festivals and
music throughout the four day long event.
4. Canal du Midi. West of Béziers, the canal, which connects Sète on the
Mediterranean with Toulouse (and ultimately the Atlantic via the Garonne
river), runs through a series of lovely old villages. Start your trip west
at the seven locks of Ecluses de Fonséranes reached along the N113 from
Béziers.
5. Roquebrun. A picturesque village in the Orb valley about 20km north of
Béziers which seemingly clings to the cliff face above the river. Known for
its microclimate, the vines here do particularly well and wine can be
sampled at several local outlets. Also a good place for swimming in the
river.
